A Case Report of Syngeneic Bone Marrow Transplantation for Chronic Myelogenous Leukemia in Blast Crisis

Abstract

|
A 44-year-old male patient in the blast crisis of Ph'(Philadelphia) positive chronic
granulocytic leukaemia (GGL) received high-dose cytosine arabinoside, cyclophosphamide,
total body irradiation, and bone marrow transplantation from an HLA-identical Twin
donor.
The engraftment was evident with rising the peripheral blood absolute neutrophil
count of greater than 91/㎣ at 25 days as well as findings of marrow biopsy. The
patient has Karonofsky performance scores of 90% at 4 months after transplantation
without evidence of relapse.
On the basis of our results, trials of bone marrow transplantation from an idential
twin in blast crisis of chronic granulocytic leukaemia may eradicate the abnormal clone
and also provide normal hematopoiesis.
Our first experience of syngeneic bone marrow transplantation for patient with chronic
granulocytic leukaemia in blast crisis is reviewed with professional literatures.
